The importance of Social Safety net programmes for poverty alleviation in Bangladesh

Social safety nets are charity works provided by the government, NGOs or individuals to save the door from falling bellow poverty line. In social safety nets different form of helps like cash transfer, food-based programs, school supplies, price subsides for food, power or transport, waiver for health care etc. are given to fight poverty.
Bangladesh is a developing poor country.  About 40% people of the country is below poverty line. Most of the poor here are poor even when the economy is good. So just making the macro- economy of Bangladesh sound and healthy will not eliminate this poverty. Social safety net programmes are required to save these people. Different programs like food for work, scholarship for poor students, subsides, zakat etc. is effectively helping the poor in Bangladesh to get some fresh air inside the suffocating poverty of their life.
Social safety net programmes are in really income redistribution programmes. It tries to use the money of the rich to help the poor. As Bangladesh is growing economy, lot of economic works are taking place, and many fortunate people are becoming richer. 20% people own 80% wealth roughly and becoming wealthier. So there is no way out without safety nets if we want to save the poor of the country.
Many of the poor in this country are also not able due to age or other different reasons. So they can never do business or work. No improvement is possible if you provide them money to invest or buy a rickshaw or sewing machine for them. The only answer is social safety net programmes. So in Bangladesh these programs are must if we want to dream for a poverty free country.
